"Made from 100% Sangiovese, this opens with a lovely floral fragrance of violet and iris. Ripe sour cherry dominates the palate accented by toasted notes and black pepper. Even though it's not complex, the juicy fruit and smooth tannins make this friendly and delicious. -KO"

"Poggio Scalette's 2012 Chianti Classico is gorgeous. Dark red and black stone fruits, spices, leather and menthol meld together in a supple yet powerful wine endowed with terrific depth and complexity at its level. All the elements are in the right place. Drink 2014-2020.
"Il Carbonaione is the highlight among these new releases from Poggio Scalette, one of Tuscany's most under the radar estates. Father and son team Vittorio and Jurij Fiore craft rich, resonant wines built on pure texture. In recent years, the Chianti Classico has been a terrific entry-level offering, as it is once again in 2012." May 2014
"This is a wine that expresses both the Chianti Classico terroir as well as the Sangiovese grape. The grapes for this wine are sourced from vineyards in the village of Ruffoli, located in Greve. Harvested at the peak of ripeness in October and fermented in concrete tanks, this wine is one of the finest examples of this classic Italian varietal.
Bright ruby red in color, a lively bouquet of red fruits and blackberries complement undertones of ripe cherries and pomegranate seeds. On the palate, the wine is fresh and fruit-forward with silky tannins that evolve throughout the finish." - Importer
