The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Madonna Nera is fermented in stainless steel and aged in French tonneaux for 36 months. Carlo Ferrini is the consulting enologist on this project. La Madonna's vineyards are just a stone's throw away from the Montalcino city limits. This is a dark and contemporary expression that boasts an inky appearance and savory aromas of cured tobacco, cigar box and exotic spice. The primary fruit is very dark with prune, plum and blackberry in the mix. This Brunello offers soft lines and a more approachable style that opens its drinking window up quite a lot. It's almost ready to dink now, or you could put it aside for ten more years.
