"This white is well-spiced, with clove and allspice aromas wafting over the core of pureed peach, papaya and grilled pineapple flavors. Mouthwatering acidity keeps this bound and focused, showing details of floral, honey cream and mineral on the finish. Roussanne and Grenache Blanc. Drink now through 2021. 7,500 cases made, 3,500 cases imported. -- GS"
Grand Canal Blanc by Cave de Roquebrun hits all the markers for a complex but balanced white wine from the Languedoc. Southern France is a mecca for wine at a reasonable price, but when you find a wine of this quality that normally goes for double the price, you know you have something special.
This is a white blend of both Roussane and Grenache Blanc, which are both known to make some of the best whites in the Rhone Valley. The wine is very similar in that it has a lot of tropical fruit notes matched with lots of honeysuckle, white flower and pristine minerality. This wine is full in flavor and complexities, but has plenty of acidity to balance it out and keep it extremely approachable.
This is the perfect style of wine to go with all kinds of cheeses, fish, and even some lighter meats, but you will even find yourself extremely satisfied drinking it by itself will all the different flavors that come out of the glass.
