If you aren't familiar with Albert Boxler, this is going to be the perfect opportunity to try one of the best producers of wine in all of Alsace. Kermit Lynch imports this wine, which is always a good sign of quality when it comes to buying wine.
While the family has been farming the land for nearly 350 years, the winery itself bottles their first wine under their own domaine in 1946, the first year possible after World War II. Since then, the wines have been under the same label that was created in 1946 by Albert Boxlers cousin. In 1996, his grandson took over the winery and vineyards, but did not conform to the modern styles of winemaking and agriculture. He is growing grapes and making wine in the only way he knows how to make wine, which was taught to him at a very young age by his grandfather.
The vineyard holdings they own are all micro-parcels of the best vineyards around the ancient village of Niedermorschwihr, Alsace. The wine we have for you today is a blend of white grapes from a bunch of different plantings. It is a beautifully complex blend of Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Auxerrois, and Sylvaner. It is completely dry with notes of peach nectre, lemon peel and clean minerality. This is a lighter style white wine with full body flavor.
This is a classic wine to go with foods like sausage, cured meats, and all kinds of fish. Don't hesitate to open it up a little before drinking to get some air into it. You will find that the flavors will be more pronounced and defined. This winery is legendary in Alsace.
