"The 2013 Tinto, i.e., the Estate flagship wine, is a field blend from old vines. It is elegant and lively, fresh, wonderfully expressive and simply delicious this year. It is not the most concentrated Poeira and its current expressiveness is perhaps in part related to that. If it makes its way with finesse, it still has power, though, demonstrating some ability to age. I suspect this will be approachable young and fear that it may not age quite as well as some, but it is completely irresistible in its youth. It still has to prove it can hold and develop, but I'm willing to lean up just now."

" After creating seven vintages as enologist in the Real Companhia Velha, I felt the need to start an individual project where I could apply my ideas and where I could control the entire production process. Without compromises, a wine that would reflect my interpretation of the Douro.
In 2001 I bought this quinta and started the Poeira project. A little later, in 2002, I joined Quinta de La Rosa as chief enologist. With the purchase of a quinta in the upper Douro by the Bergqvist family, there emerged a new wine called Passagem, the result of a partnership with the owners.
The Quinta is situated in Provesende, stretching along a hillside in the Vale do Pinhão, on the right bank of the river of the same name. It has 9 hectares of vineyard, 2 hectares of olive orchards and 3 hectares of woodland. The vineyard has a northerly aspect which is a fundamental factor for our style of table wine. The temperatures in the region are always extremely high in summer, and on a north-facing slope the grapes always ripen more slowly, which preserves the aromas, flavours and acidity better. The ruined building beside the old orange-tree has been restored and now serves as both house and winery. Right in the midst of the vines, set in a breathtaking, intense landscape.
The Winery is minimalist, with four traditional stone vats (temperature controlled) and an old vertical press. It also has a climate-controlled cask-ageing cellar with thick schist walls. It is a winery designed for creating wines very slowly and with great care, containing everything that we need to be able to achieve the full expression of our terroir." -Winery
