Coming from a half-hectare plot, his 2019 Santenay 1er Cru "Clos Rousseau" is a silky, soft, delicious dream in a glass. As would be expected there is a great core of red fruit up front - red and black cherries, strawberry, with a mild minty crunchiness on the fringe. It's concentrated, super fresh and packed with really nice minerality and verve-filled bright acidity. The higher level of limestone in the marl soils here are apparent as the tannin structure is beautifully gentle and just caresses the palate. This is another outstanding wine from Charleux, and another tremendous value from this tiny Domaine.
