"The 2017 Pinot Noir comes from a parcel adjacent to Meerlust’s vines, around 21 years of age, of the 115 clone. It has a fresh, earthy, almost Morey-Saint-Denis-like bouquet, the granite soils imparting a sense of masculinity. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin, and the 100% whole-cluster fruit lends a slight Dujac-like finish. No surprise that Mick Craven actually did a harvest at Dujac in his mid-twenties. I think the Seysses family would applaud this."

Product Description:

"On the nose, red cherry, red flowers and spice but also more base notes of black olive and a pleasant earthiness. Medium bodied but possess lovely fruit definition, almost tingly acidity and fine tannins -- although fermentation involved 100% whole bunches, there’s very little sense of stalkiness.

Pinot Noir was the first wine Mick and Jeanine made back in 2013 with grapes from Jeanine's family farm in Faure. It is a great grape to work with, showing the femininity of this site more than any other grape. This block lies on probably one of the 'coolest' sites in Stellenbosch on a south-westerly slope facing False Bay which is 2.5 miles away. 100% planted to clone 115 in 1998, it is a relatively low yielding block and loves to be picked nice and early.

In the cellar the de-stemmer is set aside opting to ferment this wine 100% whole bunch. Fruit is picked by hand and lightly foot stomped in open top fermenters to get some juice. From there it is lightly pumped over one-two times a day to quite simply move the juice around. The idea is not to over extract, wanting to keep as many whole bunches and berries intact. 2017 was on skins/stems for around 10 days, then drained and pressed to old barrels for 10 months.

The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered, with nothing added during the winemaking process apart from a dash of sulphur." - Importer
