About

Rating:

"Good dark red. Very pure but subdued aromas of red berries, flowers and licorice; this really needs air. Juicy and tightly wound but not quite hard, offering penetrating flavors of blackberry and cranbyerry. This firmly structured village wine finishes with substantial spreading tannins.

Vinification with whole clusters (Duband used a higher percentage of whole clusters than usual in 2015) similarly results in longer fermentations, which he views as an advantage since he does not do a pre-fermentation cold soak and does not like post-fermentation maceration either. Duband described 2015 as “a second 2005 for me," which he made clear was high praise."

Product Description:

"When David Duband joined his father Pierre at the head of the family domaine, the estate was comprised of 15 hectares of vines in Chevannes, in the heart of the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits and 5 hectares in Nuits St Georges. At the time, the grapes were sold to the local coop and the estate concentrated all of its efforts on viticulture.

In 1991, having just received his diploma from the school of oenology in Beaune, David Duband decided to vinify his first vintage. The perfect opportunity for a talented and enterprising spirit to test and experiment the different techniques of vinification.

David Duband's winemaking philosophy was the fruit of the vineyard work of his father and expert advice from his mentor Robert Jayer in Magny-les-Villers. He listened to the teachings of his cousins during internships at the Domaines Arlaud and Pierre Amiot in Morey-Saint-Denis. But it is also his profound love for the wines of Burgundy and the great achievements of Domaine Dujac in Morey-Saint-Denis and Armand Rousseau in Gevrey-Chambertin that inspired and guided his choices in regards to vinification. The Domaine David Duband lies in Chevannes, in the heart of the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits and produces refined and elegant wines from 23 prestigious appellations from Nuits-Saint-Georges to Gevrey-Chambertin. The estate farms 17 hectares of vines organically, under the strict management of the Ecocert label."
