"(the estate makes 25 to 28 barrels of this cuvée, from vines on rocky soil just across from the house and winery in the middle of the village): Bright, dark red. Very clean, high-pitched scents of black raspberry, licorice and violet. Complex, tactile and deep, showing lovely vinosity and salty minerality but little easy sweetness. This very minerally wine finishes firmly tannic but not hard, with juicy, subtle, rising length."

"Intense and saturated, if a bit oaky now, delivering black currant, blackberry and earth flavors on a powerful frame. Assertive, dusty tannins command the finish, yet a beam of fruit stays constant. Be patient. Best from 2023 through 2045. 650 cases made. -BS"
"Nestled in the heart of Gevrey-Chambertin, the Livera family has owned Domaine des Tilleuls since 1920. Orignally founded by Philippe Livera's grandfather, at the beginning the estate sold all of their grapes to negociant houses in Beaune like Louis Jadot and Bouchard Père.
It was Philippe who first began to bottle the wine under his name when he took over in 1986. In 2007 the reins of the estate were passed down to Philippe's son Damien, who was then just in his 20s. Since this time, Damien has improved the vineyard management, upgraded the winery, and raised the quality of the wines. Damien was inspired by and learned from acclaimed Burgundy producers with cult status that he knows as relatives, neighbors, and friends (Dugat, Ponsot, and Mortet, among others) and has quickly established himself as one of the top young winemakers in the Cote de Nuits.
The estate covers 9 hectares in the Cote de Nuits, mainly in Gevrey-Chambertin, with some shares of the prime Crus such as the prestigious Grand Cru Chapelle-Chambertin. Damien is meticulous in the vineyard and ensures that everything is done by hand; he employs organic techniques and believes in minimal intervention. Livera keeps the cellar at very cold temperatures, causing malolactic fermentation to be extremely slow, but resulting in wines with depth and complexity.
With wines of such high quality and precision it is no surprise that Philippe Livera wines continue to gain a loyal following both at home and internationally.
Situated just outside of the domaine, this walled vineyard was planted in the early 1960s and is just 1.5 hectares in size. The Clos is located just 150 yards from the famed Clos St Jacques and other top premier cru vineyards. Grapes are hand-harvested and destemmed and fermentation is initiated with native yeasts. 1/3 of the wine is aged in new oak and the rest in two to three-year-old casks. " - Importer
