" François Duvivier, winemaker at d’Angerville in Volnay, partnered with Guillaume d’Angerville on this project in the Jura. They purchased two parcels of biodynamically farmed vines, producing great wines from their first vintage of 2012. And they have followed up with exceptional 2014s, including this blend of pinot noir, trousseau and poulsard. If you want to know why Jura makes so many sommeliers so happy, here’s the wine to taste: It’s light, almost featherweight in its delicacy, yet substantive in its flavors, ranging from wild strawberry and red raspberry to red cherry and pink grapefruit. Air seems to flesh out the flavors without putting any weight onto the wine. Bright and beautiful, this is Jura in a glass."
"Domaine du Pelican is a winery in the French Alps region of Jura. But not just any winery, it's a winery owned and operated by one of Burgundy's most important estates, Domaine d'Angerville in Volnay. Why Jura? Guillaume d'Angerville says, "I tasted this bottle blind in a restaurant in Paris that I often go to. I always tell the sommelier to give me something blind and the only rule is that it has to be outside Burgundy. When he brought me this wine, I said, 'You forgot the rule, you brought me a wine from Burgundy.' And he said, 'I am afraid you're wrong.'
The wine was a bottle of Stéphane Tissot’s Chardonnay Arbois Les Bruyères 2005 and it left such an imprint on Guillaume that it inspired him to begin a search for vineyards in the Jura to create a new domaine. After purchasing Chateau Chavanes in Montigny-les-Arsures, Guillaume built a winery surrounded by 5 hectares of biodynamically farmed vines that had been impeccably replanted ten years prior by the former owner, Francois de Chavanes. The domaine is supported by an additional 5 hectares of chemically-free vines formerly farmed by Jean-Marc Brignot. In 2014, Jacques Puffeney announced he would be retiring and that Guillaume would be taking over 4 hectares of his vineyards.
Now, at just under 15 hectares, Domaine du Pelican is practically the same size as Domaine Marquis d’Angerville and the family’s first venture outside of Burgundy.
The Trois Cepages is a blend of 60% Pinot Noir, 35% Trousseau and 5% Poulsard." - Importer
