John Gilman - View from the Cellar:
"When younger Burgundy lovers ask me what wines they should be looking at in the region, now that so many crus are out of the financial reach of so many, I often point to Petits Vougeots as one of the great values to be found in the Côte de Nuits. The underlying soil in this vineyard is absolutely the same as a great many of the top premier crus in neighboring Chambolle-Musigny, but the wines here typically sell for far less, and the 2013 from Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat will be one of the steals of the vintage. The excellent nose jumps from the glass in a red fruity blaze of cherries, blood orange, chalky soil tones, coffee, woodsmoke, mustard seed and a touch of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is fullish, pure and tangy, with a lovely core, fine soil signature, suave tannins and a long, tangy and complex finish. A lovely wine in the making. 2020-2050+."
