John Gilman - View from the Cellar
"I have always loved the domaine’s Clos Vougeot, and I had a chance on this visit to see where their parcels are located, and it is quite clear that they have a couple of beautifully-situated plots of vines to work with in this vineyard. Both parcels are up at the top of the slope by the château, with the plot that originated from the Noëllat family running from the upper wall right down along the side of the château on its southern side, and the same-size parcel that originally came from the Hudelot family contiguous and right below it, with the Méo-Camuzet parcel lying alongside it on the slope. Prime real estate! The 2013 finished up its malo quite late as well and still had a bit of CO2 on the backend, but this is clearly a star of the vintage, as it wafts from the glass in a superb blend of cherries, red plums, raw cocoa, a touch of nutskin, woodsmoke, fresh herbs, roses and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, very transparent and rock solid at the core, with ripe tannins, bright acids and superb length and grip on the focused and youthful finish. A great Clos Vougeot in the making. 2025-2075."
