About

Rating:

91

"An unusually elegant nose speaks of a perfumed assortment of red berries, earth and a background note of dried herbs. The appealingly textured and concentrated flavors also possess a relatively refined mouth feel in the context of what is typical for a Gevrey villages before culminating in a lingering finish that displays excellent complexity and only a trace of rusticity. This harmonious effort should both drink well young yet reward up to a decade of cellaring. Worth a look."

Product Description:

"True to its name, "Terroir du Domaine" is a cuvee with a strong sense of place and a great soul. Wonderful sweet red cherries are enlivened with hints of leather and spice in the nose. The palate reveals a dense and compact core of dark fruits and rustic tones. Overall, it is compact and shows grace as well as power. This cuvée is sourced from various plots in Gevrey. It is aged 15-18 months in barrels that are 1-2 years old.

Domaine Gerard Seguin can trace its roots back to the mid-1800’s, when Alexis Seguin was a winemaker in Gevrey-Chambertin as well as an expert in grafting vines. The phylloxera outbreak allowed him a unique opportunity to showcase his talents, as he was one of the first in Burgundy to graft vines to American rootstock to fight the disease. Today this small family estate covers 16 acres, most of which are in Gevrey and Gevrey 1er Cru vineyards, with the remainder spread between Chambolle, Fixin, and Marsannay. The wines made here show remarkable class. The use of new oak is slight in order to preserve the authenticity of each parcel’s terroir." - Importer
