"The 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin la Justice has an earthier, slightly stemmy nose compared to the other 2013s from Philippe Charlopin. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and palpable tension, the finish rather terse, but nicely focused. Fine. Philippe Charlopin has a wide portfolio of wines under his belt and therefore unsurprisingly some were lost to poor flowering and/or hail damage. He cropped from October 6 or 7 (he could not recall exactly which), and finished on October 20 with the Marsannay Chezeaux and Gevrey Evocelles. Since the wines contained higher levels of malic acid, Philippe told me that he chaptalized around one degree of alcohol. This was a more varied set of wines from Philippe Charlopin, some of the grand crus that impressed last year bereft of the same harmony and substance, but conversely some of the more modest cuvees showing well. " A whiff of acetone signals this plum- and cherry-flavored red. Settles down on the palate, with a rich texture and well-integrated acidity and tannins. Just a little skittish on the nose now. Best from 2018 through 2029. 50 cases imported. "
