The 2013 Pinot Noir Tina Marie Vineyard opens with exotic, sweet cough syrupy notes that are unusual for a mid-weight Pinot made with an approach that favors picking on the earlier side. The Tina Marie is an attractive Pinot with understated fruit and a somewhat fleeting, elusive personality. With time in the glass the wine starts to find its balance. Ross Cobb and Katy Wilson make restrained, delicate Chardonnays and Pinots from top vineyards sites in Sonoma at Banshee, a project headed by Noah Dorrance, Baron Ziegler and Steve Graf. The appellation wines are especially of note as they deliver an attractive combination of quality, price and volume. In addition to these wines, I also tasted the 2013 Pinot Noir Thorn Ridge Vineyard, which was heavily reduced and impossible to evaluate. Banshee remains one of the most intriguing young projects in Sonoma.
