"The 2011 Charmes-Chambertin from Domaine Roty is also stupendous. The bouquet is a superb and utterly classic blend of black cherries, cassis, grilled meat, dark chocolate, a marvelously complex base of dark soil tones, woodsmoke, a touch of coffee bean and toasty new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very soil-driven, with bottomless depth, impeccable focus and balance, ripe, chewy tannins, excellent acidity and stunning length and grip on the complex and very pure, palate-staining finish. Great juice in the making. 2025-2075."

"Ruby-red. Less expressive on the nose than the Griottes, offering scents of blackberry, violet, licorice and underbrush. Deep but closed today, with a powerful spine to its dark fruit, mineral and iron flavors. There's a distinctly savory quality here that reminds me of Chambertin. A wine of power and outstanding length but very difficult to taste today and not showing its fruit." (03/14)

"A conspicuous but again not dominant lashing of wood still allows the complex and highly spiced nose of wild and fresh red currant, plum, earth, humus and a hint of smoke to be fully appreciated. There is a refined mouth feel to the surprisingly supple mid-palate of the broad-shouldered flavors where there is so much dry extract that this appears less structured than it really is, all wrapped in a delicious and admirably long finish where the wood toast reemerges."

Product Description:

From vines planted when Chester A. Arthur was the president of the United States, this wine is one of the biggest stars in Burgundy!

Joseph Roty is among Burgundy's elite, and is super coveted by collector's. This flagship offering is a cult classic, and is an amazing treat for any collector!

With roots that are crazy deep into the limestone below, this wine is laced with earth flavors throughout, and shows an unreal complexity of natural character. It’s an example, but seriously one of the single most interesting wines in the store. Could you imagine if you made it to 126 years old? These vines probably have some awesome stories!
