"The 2012 Petite Sirah Palisades Vineyard is a drop-dead gorgeous beauty. Silky, polished and utterly impeccable, the 2012 will redefine what Petite Syrah is and can be in Napa Valley. Layers of blue and black fruit, ink, white flowers, cloves and sweet spices all flow across the palate with superb grace and complexity. The 2012 is so delicious, it could actually be enjoyed today, but it won't be bottled until August 2014. This is a striking wine from Carver-Sutro.
Proprietors Dennis Sutro and Anne Carver own one of the very best Petite Sirah vineyards in Napa Valley."

"The 2012 Petite Sirah Palisades Vineyard, which is still in barrel, reveals peppery, meaty, blackberry and blueberry fruit notes intermixed with a hint of barbecue smoke. The relatively civilized tannins are no doubt attributable to this vintage that has produced such sweet, velvety, fruit-forward wines. Nevertheless, this full-bodied, polished 2012 Petite Sirah is capable of lasting 20 years after its release later this year."
"The Palisades Vineyard is located in Calistoga in the North east corner of the Napa Valley. The site is in a small canyon that gets a constant breeze moving through the vines. Petite Sirah is very susceptable to botrytis so these breezes keep the fruit dry and healthy. This is a Grand Cru Petite Sirah site! The famous Petite Sirahs from Stags Leap came from this site and they still buy fruit today.
Carver-Sutro is a joint venture of Denis Sutro and wife Anne Carver. All of their fruit is sourced from the Palisades Vineyard in Calistoga. This site is considered by many to be one of the "Grand Cru" vineyards in all of California for Petite Sirah due to its positioning in a small, well exposed valley. This protects against botrytis, which often affects Petite Sirah in the late season. The vineyard has long been the source for Stag's Leap's Reserve Petite Sirah, and they continue to buy grapes to this day.
The old head-pruned vines cover 18 acres and average around 35 years old. The late season winds that funnel up the valley, can often intensify the concentration and flavors through a slight "passerillage" (or drying) of the grapes just before harvest.
The wines are made by Gary Brookman who also makes wines for Grace Family. These are pure, dense, massive Petite Sirahs, built for the ages. Production is limited, with only around 500 cases produced each year.
Wine critic Robert Parker calls Carver-Sutro "a Petite Sirah of monumental proportions [and] some of the finest Petite Sirahs I have tasted." -Importer
