Izak Litwar - Great Wines of Bordeaux
Franc Maillet - 80% Merlot + 20% Cabernet Franc. Situated in the hamlet of Maillet in east Pomerol with Le Bon Pasteur as the closest neighbour. Somewhat, this property seems to have gone under my radar for quite some years, for I haven't tasted wines from it before. So it was quite a surprise and a very positive one when I tasted the 2018 vintage. It was very expressive on the nose and palate with plenty of aromatic and creamy black cherries and blueberries, freshness, finely grained tannin, vibrancy, velvety texture, splendid structure, and complexity. Lingering and lush finish with aplomb.

From a typically small estate, this wine offers chocolate and spice flavors that accompany rich black-currant fruits and a texture that is rounding out well. Drink the wine from 2023.

The 2018 Château Franc-Maillet has a slightly darker slant in its red and darker berry fruits as well as more structure and depth on the palate. Black cherries, chocolate, bouquet garni, cedary herbs, and earth all emerge from the glass, and it's medium to full-bodied, with a rich, mouth-filling, chewy texture and outstanding length. It's another beautiful wine from this estate.
