About

Ratings:

93-94

Tasted from barrel in July 2017, Fritsch's 2016 Ruppersthal Ried Mordthal 1ÖTW Grüner Veltliner is a generous wine. It has an intense yellow color and opens with a deep, dense yet fresh and flinty-mineral bouquet of well-defined ripe fruits underlined with some iron aromas. Full-bodied and rich but also clear and fresh on the palate, with silky tannins and piquant acidity, this is an elegant, tight and mineral Mordthal that possesses a lot of character and aging potential. It is a generous but also straight and aristocratic Grüner Veltliner with a lot of grip and expression. Probably one of the finest Grüner Veltiners produced along the Danube in 2016.

"Apple, rhubarb and mirabelle suggest distilled-fruit intensity on the nose. A glossy, full palate introduces pleasantly earthy suggestions of lightly-caramelized turnip, but also conveys a welcome, invigorating combination of crunch and tartness that follows – reinforced by sizzling nips of radish and a saliva-inducing pinch of salt – into a sassy, zingy, generously-juicy finish. There is a surprising and admirable sense of lift to that finish for a wine of 12.8% alcohol."
