Xavier Vins is a négociant business in the Rhône valley run by enologist Xavier Vignon, who also works as a consultant with top Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Rhône estates such as Le Nerthe and Marcoux.
Vignon established the company in 2002, prompted by wine importer friends who were keen to see him make his own wine. Helped by his connections with top-notch growers and major shippers, the subsequent wines have gained acclaim for quality and value, and gained widespread international distribution.
The first release, which is still the figurehead of the range, was a Vin de Table (now Vin de France) made from several vintages and numerous Rhône varieties blended together. A wide number of more conventional red, rosé and white wines are also made, including Rasteau and Gigondas wines plus several Châteauneuf-du-Pape cuvées.
The Xavier Vins releases are blends of small lots of made wines selected from the cellars of up to 20 different producers, including many of the star properties for whom Vignon consults.
Situated in the South of the Rhone Valley, Vacqueyras’ vineyard is protected by the Dentelles de Montmirail and benefits from a diversity of soils and terroirs giving to the wines finesse, harmony
and balance. This cuvée is made from organic grapes.
Terroir:The Syrah vines come from clay-limestone and clay alluvium terroirs. The old Grenache vines are planted on rolled pebbles terraces.
Vinification:Vinification in concrete tanks for all 3 grape varieties to preserve the fruit aromas. Maceration for 4 weeks.
Aging:18 months in small concrete vats for Grenache and Mourvèdre. 6 months in concrete vats then 12 months in one-wine barrels for Syrahs.
Aromas of blackberries and plums, violets with hints of peppery herbs. Round, fruity and full-bodied. Ripe tannins. The fruit remains the backbone of this cuvée.
