"One of the finest barrel samples I was able to taste was the 2017 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes, which, like the 2016, comes exclusively from the Charbonnière and Esquierons lieux-dits and is almost all very old vine Grenache. This full-bodied, incredibly seamless, flamboyant Grenache boasts sensational aromatics (framboise, strawberries, exotic flowers), beautiful purity of fruit, sweet tannins, and truly sensational length. I don’t think it’s going to match the 2016, but it’s certainly not far off."
