From the Winemakers' Website: Shades of wild strawberries and spices on the nose. Civilized expression, obvious tannin finesse and charm in the mouth. It is not every day that you find a Chateauneuf-du-Pape that leads with acidity over its tannin & extraction; the main cuvée of the domaine is just that. Two-thirds of the blend comes from Grenache vines that are older than 50 years. The difference, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre & 5% Cinsault are a strong supporting cast that compliments the finesse of the Grenache. The old-vine Grenache is made in concrete tanks to preserved freshness, while the Syrah & Mourvedre spend time in barrel to soften their structure to more closely match the finesse of the Grenache. The result is a wine that is supple in his youth with no excessive tannins & alcohol but enough acidity & structure to guarantee a great ageing potential. The only downside to this wine is that it is too easy to be drunk & you risk losing the opportunity to really understand the hidden depth of this wine that can only be revealed with patience in the glass.
