Set in the Pyrenean foothills and under the shadow of the famous Mont Canigou, Les Aspres is a benchmark cru in the Côtes du Roussillon. Aspres means “arid” in Catalan, and this characterises this sun-drenched terroir bordered by a landscape of garrigue and alzina. Here the vines get the very best out of the schist soils to offer a powerful, incomparably fine wine. Located in the foothills of Canigou, Les Aspres is composed of valleys covered with thick forestland at altitude and more barren vegetation lower down. These paths were for a long time used by merchants and miners – not forgetting the pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela, who then moved on to Le Tech Valley. Each of the villages on this territory is linked to the others by the presence of a chapel or church steeped in history. Today Les Aspres is turning to “green tourism”, with its authentic cultural and gastronomic heritage revealing all the riches of Catalonia.
