"Taste this ... close your eyes ... and imagine you are in the Rhone Valley. This top flight Rhone lookalike is a stunner. The real key to the project is winemaker Peter Heitz, who is also the current winemaker at Turnbull where he has earned 96 to 100 points on 12 different wines since 2010 from Robert Parker Jr. himself! All in all, this is a medium to full bodied red blend with great fruit and a long finish. Outstanding!"

Product Description:

Tasting Notes:
"Fruit is the predominant flavor in the 2012 vintage of 2880 Red Wine thanks to the three signature Rhone varieties Grenache, Syrah, and Petite Sirah that are planted in our tiny one-third acre estate vineyard (aka Backyard) in Calistoga. Aromatically, there is dark fruit (black cherries and blackberries) and a lift of red fruit too (muddled strawberries and bright red cherries). There’s also a hair of bergamot tea or orange rind, which gives the blend finesse. To compliment and round out the barrels of our hand-picked artisan field blend, we added Petite Sirah from the historic Pocai Vineyard in Calistoga which sits just north of Three Palms Vineyard. Pocai’s serpentine soils produce inky goodness (think huckleberry pie), which commingle with the red tones of our estate fruit to yield a wine with a super delicious mouthfeel and taste." - Importer

Vineyard:
"2880 Wines are sourced from sustainably farmed vineyards, and is a proud member of Calistoga Winegrowers.

THE 2880 BACKYARD VINEYARD is located on the valley floor -- at the base of Mount St. Helena -- at the northernmost end of the Napa Valley. Thanks to Calistoga AVA’s unique summer temperature swings (cool nights and hot days), its well-drained volcanic soils, and our hand tending, the estate vineyard consistently produces wines that make us proud." - Winery
