The 2016 Morgon, which comes from 60-year-old vines in Croix de Chevre and is matured in eight-year-old barrels for eight months, has a clean and precise bouquet with lifted blackberry, raspberry and just a hint of pressed flowers. This is very refined, and I appreciate the manner in which it opens in the glass. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, quite mineral-driven and tensile with a dash of white pepper enlivening the sappy, chalky-textured finish. There is potential here although I would just like to see more joie-de-vivre develop by the time of bottling.
