About

Rating:

94

"The NV Brut Premier Cru Cuvée Vendémiaire is a Chardonnay from five villages of the Côte des Blancs but is mainly sourced in Vertus (50%). The recent disgorgement from early 2018 (dosage: four grams per liter) is based on the 2012 vintage and includes 50% of reserve wines from vintages 2011 down to 2008. Intensely citrus colored, this is a pure, fresh, concentrated, very mineral and pure Chardonnay that still offers greenish citrus flavors. With great finesse and complexity on the palate, it is very elegant and pure as well as very long and expressive, with intense, powerful and well-concentrated but fresh and highly finessed fruit and vitality. There is lots of energy and tension here, lots of expression and length. Great complexity and vitality. This has huge aging potential. A great wine, indeed."

Product Description:

The Doyard family traces their roots in Champagne back to the 17th century. Maurice Doyard, was the first in the family to make wine in Vertus, officially signifying the domaine’s foundation. In 1979, Yannick Doyard took over the domaine, turning it into a beacon for precise, mineral-etched Champagne. Today, Yannick’s son Guillaume is at the helm, farming 10 ha of vineyards in Vertus and the Grand Cru villages of Le Mesnil, Cramant, Oger, Avize and Aÿ. The viticultural philosophy employed by the domaine is a ‘non-dogmatic’ approach to biodynamic farming with absolutely no herbicides or pesticides used. Most of the vineyards are worked by horse and yields are intentionally kept low, adding to the focused intensity that defines the house style. In the cellar, state of the art double banked Coquard PAI presses are employed and every parcel is vinified separately. All of the wines undergo very long lees aging — a minimum of 48 months on all cuvées, lending a vinous quality to the wines that have become the envy of Vertus. Every single decision made in the vineyard and cellar are geared toward making the most expressive, terroir focused Champagne possible.
