This tiny parcel of Chardonnay in Les Godeaux borders directly on Les Lavières, (where Michel Ampeau has beautiful vines of his own). In a good large glass, the wine has a pale, straw gold color, with aromas of freshly sliced Roma apples, white peaches, dried coconut, and crystallized honey moving in and out of the foreground, sometimes alternating with suggestions of Asian pears, lime blossoms, chervil, and white pepper, as the nose evolves in the glass. On entry, the wine is fresh and vibrant, with a solid core of white orchard fruit flavors seasoned with fresh tarragon and chervil; the Roma apples lightly baked and sprinkled with lime juice, and the fleeting suggestions of white lavender, preserved lemons, and toasted pine nuts become tailored and explicitly mineral, as the wine narrows its focus over time, with a rare combination of high energy, vibrancy, and persistence. And if you give it a few minutes in the glass, the white currants, fresh hay, and sous bois that perfume the warm summer breezes at the juncture of the Côtes de Beaune and the Côtes de Nuits take over. Just outstanding. -WINERY
