"The 2014 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Chenevottes has a fragrant bouquet with white flowers tincturing the fresh citrus fruit. There is plenty of tension coiled up in this Chenevotes though like the 2014 Champ-Gain, one can see that it will benefit from time in bottle. The palate is fresh and crisp on the entry with green apple, lemon zest, minerals and hazelnut, the acidity pronounced thereby lending verve and tension from start to finish, a dab of sour lemon on the aftertaste. This is an excellent Chassagne-Montrachet from Jouard.
Having tracked Domaine Jouard's for the last three of four vintages, I regretted not being able to visit this Chassagne-based domaine late last year. With that being said, the wait was worthwhile, because this was an exemplary set of 2014s that exploited a vintage that favored the white over the reds and also, this particular Côte de Beaune appéllation over others. I commented to Vincent Jouard that this was perhaps the best set of wines that I had tasted from his cellar, replete with nervosité, complexity and vivacity. Jouard is a name that is still a little under the radar at the moment and so this is an opportune moment to grab some of these fabulous wines."
"This Premier Cru vineyard in Chassagne-Montrachet is situated in the South-West corner of the village. It is gently sloping, faces East and produces gorgeous white wines made from Chardonnay grapes. They are made under the Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru appellation.
Francois and Vincent are one of the few domaines to specialize in this appellation. They only bottle part of our production. Francois is the winemaker and Vincent works the vines. The brothers are very attached to their wine heritage and the value of the soil handed down by their family. The same philosophy applies to vineyard work: joint decision making in each parcel, sustainable viticulture is a priority with extensive plowing in order to avoid chemical weeding.
The family holding represents 11 hectares (a little over 27 acres). The Jouard brothers produce 95% white wines, and only 5% red Chassagne-Montrachet. 250 cases are produced assuring only the highest quality wines. The only vines that go into the Jouard estate bottlings are old vines (over 50 years), therefore Vieilles Vignes appears on every label. For all the wines, Francois Jouard uses 1/3 new oak and works with the best barrel-makers—Chassin, Gillet, Billon." -Winery
