Antonio Galloni - Vinous:

"An exotic, intriguing Chardonnay, the 2012 Bien Nacido Vineyard Block UU wraps around the palate with an appealing melange of tropical fruit, jasmine, spices and mint. The aromas and flavors are quite extroverted, yet the 2012 remains a delicate, mid-weight Chardonnay built first and foremost on finesse. Today, it is shaping up to be a drop-dead beauty. I tasted the 2012 just before it was bottled."

Wine Enthusiast:

"Foxen’s UU bottling is practically an insurance policy for great Chardonnay in any vintage. With 2012, the winery was granted a balanced, even harvest, with the resulting wine showing brisk acidity and subtle fruit and mineral flavors, touched with sweet oak. It defines a cool-climate style of Chardonnay in a most delicious way"

Josh Raynolds - Vinous Media:

"(all barrel fermented and aged on its lees for 8 months): Light yellow. An exotically perfumed bouquet displays viognier-like scents of peach nectar, violet, honey and white pepper. Sappy and fine-grained on the palate, offering intense pit fruit and orange flavors and a suave floral quality. Lively, focused and spicy on the finish, showing good energy and closing cut. This wine has a relatively low pH of 3.21."

Wine & Spirits:

"Block UU has some of Bien Nacido’s oldest vines—own-rooted riesling planted in 1973, grafted over to chardonnay in the 1980s. Those wide-spaced rows accommodated an interplanting of more chardonnay in the early 1990s, and Foxen makes use of both plantings. The block’s shale-laced benchland soil produces notably concentrated fruit. Ergo this powerful yet balanced chardonnay, displaying a mouthwatering tension between its pink grapefruit tang and its warm, sun-charged breadth. There’s a fair amount of oak on the wine, which integrates as it takes on air. A dynamic Bien Nacido chardonnay for grilled Pacific swordfish with a fruit salsa."

Jeb Dunnuck - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:

"Just bottled and a beautiful, mineral-driven effort that boasts aromas of white peach, white flowers, subtle toast and baking bread, the 2012 Chardonnay Block UU – Bien Nacido Vineyard is medium-bodied, juicy and lively on the palate. This all-around classy, lean and focused Chardonnay has outstanding depth and length, and will have 4-5 years of prime drinking. Drink now-2017. Both of these Chardonnays could warrant higher ratings in another year once they settle in bottle."

Product Description:

"With the Block UU Bien Nacido Chardonnay, beautiful tropical and citrus aromas are followed by a rich full mouthfeel and flavors of grapefruit, pineapple and mango--with notes of minerality and just a hint of toasty vanilla. Birght acidity beautifully balances the richness of the mouthfeel." - Winery
