About

95

This is serious Cabernet that packs plenty of punch -- partly thanks to 8% Petit Verdot -- yet it still shows clear Cabernet character, and punches with a nicely padded glove. Very deeply pigmented, with impressive density that leaves rich, dark tears that descend only very slowly down the glass after swirling, you can see that this is big-time Cab before even giving it a whiff. Cassis and black current fruit notes further enhance its impression of gravitas, and bold but well-measured oak seals the deal, along with gutsy tannins that are balanced with the richness of the fruit. Surprisingly graceful for a very, very big wine. A Double Gold Award Winner at the 2020 Toast of the Coast International Wine Competition.

"Grown on the winery's Adelaida Springs Ranch, which is 12 miles from the ocean at 1,700 feet in elevation, this is a rich and unctuous take on Cabernet that spent 20 months in new French oak. Hedonistic aromas of black cherry, cocoa, cappuccino and fudge cake lead to a palate that's expertly structured by polished tannins. Flavors of tiramisu and berry-compote sing on the palate. -MK"

Product Description:

"The fruit for the Mountain Road Reserve grows on Adelaida Springs Ranch, at an elevation of 1,700 feet and only 12 miles from the Pacific Coast. Situated in the rugged coastal mountains west of Paso Robles, this prime vineyard site features rocky calcareous soils and southwestern exposures that lend themselves to producing stunning wines. It is here that the grapes for our award-winning Suendero are also grown.

This special selection focuses on very small lots of limited-production Cabernet Sauvignon, with a bit of Petit Verdot in the blend to enhance the structure of the finished wine. To achieve a balanced style with a rich character and refined mouthfeel, the wine was aged for 20 months in French oak barrels before bottling unfined and unfiltered.

Garnet. Cassis, blueberry, cedar and anise, with hints of black olives and juniper berry. Full-bodied with cassis and blueberry, licorice notes, chewy and chalky tannins." - Winery
