"The winemaker behind these magnificent wines is Dave Phinney, working from the Dr. George Beldon Crane Vineyard, which was first planted as a site in 1885. At that time it was largely a blend of grapes often referred to as “mixed blacks.” There are now eight acres in production, four containing the original plantings and the rest planted from 1930 onward. Phinney and a group of his friends purchased the vineyard in 2012...serious consumers should be thrilled." -Robert Parker
"Yet again, the infamous drought suited our Cabernet Sauvignon very well. It was dark, concentrated and complex-and that was just in the vineyard. During fermentation, even more aromas, flavors and textures started to reveal. Overall, the wine is classic St. Helena Cabernet Sauvignon that is inviting and approachable young and will continue to evolve over the coming years. Powerful opulence. The 2014 GB Crane Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon opens with layered aromatics of overripe cassis, blackberries and plum. Shades of tarragon, sage and fragrant Californian chaparral follow closely. The entry is, as expected, rich and lush with a balanced mid-palate rife with juicy stone fruit, black cherries and traces of graphite, clove and licorice. The soft, refined tannins bring the experience to a slow, elegant close-flavors persisting at length." -Winery
