This wine has a nearly opaque red-purple hue in the glass with a garnet halo. Aromatic notes of clove, sweet tobacco leaf, baking chocolate, raspberry, and leather are finely interlaced. The palate experience is plush and round with mouth-coating notes of plum skin, cassis, rhubarb, crushed strawberries, cinnamon and violets. With some time in the glass, this wine will open up and showcase all the best attributes of 2014: pronounced aromatics, detailed varietal expression and a fine sense of place.
Carmen Policy’s first career was that of a trial lawyer providing an opportunity to help defend and promote the interests of his clients in a competitive and dramatic setting. He expanded his efforts into the NFL in 1979 while still maintaining a successful career in law. Carmen then joined the San Francisco 49ers organization, where he played a key role in all five of the 49ers' Super Bowl winning teams. Thanks to his friend and client Eddie DeBartolo Jr. he was involved in helping to establish them as one of the preeminent franchises in all of sports. He and his wife Gail found their new life and their new home in San Francisco to be a virtual fairytale come true and moved there permanently in 1991. They returned to Ohio for 5 years in 1998 as President, CEO and part owner of the Cleveland Browns expansion franchise. Their plan was always to return to Northern California and they did so in 2004.
Thomas Brown is renowned for his ABC style of winemaking. He believes that you must first find the special piece of ground that can provide you with the quality of fruit that will enable the winemaker to craft a great product. The next step is to guaranty that the farming methods used are creative, intelligent, updated and sustainable for the vineyard and its neighbors. Lastly, he employs a minimalist approach to handling the juice even when he is applying his fine artistic touch. This allows the DNA of the terroir to express itself. His unique philosophy embodies old world indulgence of the dirt with a blend of new world efficiency and execution when crafting the wine. He seems to have achieved the same perfect balance in his performance as exists in the wines that he creates.
