"The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9/% Petit Verdot and the rest Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, is a classic example of Pritchard Hill, Chappellet and of Napa Valley. Brilliant purity, a dense purple color, superb blackberry and floral-infused blueberry fruit and cassis, a full-bodied mouthfeel, moderate but sweet tannin and a long, layered, texture and finish make for a profound Cabernet Sauvignon that actually sells at a bargain price for what is in the bottle. Moreover, look for it to evolve graciously for another 20+ years.

Chappellet is the pioneer that, in the last 1960s, first began planting vineyards on what is now one of the hottest viticultural regions of Napa Valley – Pritchard Hill. Even though Pritchard Hill isn’t entitled to an AVA, there is no question that the 15 or 16 wineries are up there are producing world-class wines, and it all started with the efforts of Molly and Don Chappellet in the late 1960s. The 1969 Cabernet Sauvignon they made with the help of Philip Togni remains one of the greatest Napa Cabernet Sauvignons I have ever tasted, and is still vigorous at age 47!"

Product Description:

"The Signature Cabernet Sauvignon has been our flagship wine for more than three decades. It is a benchmark for the long-lived hillside wines of the Napa Valley; full of structure and aging potential, yet seductively forward in its varietal character. The dry, rocky soils of Pritchard Hill produce small, intensely flavorful grapes. Crop thinning allows for full, even ripening and further elevates flavor complexity.

For the third year in a row, Mother Nature provided exceptional grow - ing conditions. In fact, our vineyard manager, Dave Pirio, believes that 2012, 2013 and 2014 may be the finest run of growing seasons he has seen in his more than 30 years of farming Pritchard Hill. While 2014 offered lovely temperate, mid-season weather that was ideal for our early ripening varieties, it also brought ample warmth in September and October, ensuring perfect ripeness in our late-ripening grapes. With no threat of rain or significant heat events, the fruit was harvested at an unhurried pace in pristine condition. Overall, our yields were down slightly, resulting in beautiful depth and concentration." -Winery
