James Halliday - Australian Wine Companion:

"A 78/11/11% blend of cabernet, merlot and malbec matured in French oak for 18 months. A Margaret River classic, albeit with a niche all of its own given by the juicy freshness of the palate, and by its effortless length and finish. Simply beautiful."

James Suckling -

"Very floral and fragrant wine that has a lot of red-fruit character in combination with a strident, showy oak layer on the nose and a raw cassis edge, too. The extract is here, and this has a level of sophistication that makes for a very convincing wine with world-class appeal. The tannins hold long with terrific power and are bathed in red-cherry and cassis flavors. Long and deep. Best from 2021, but this will hold for 10+ years."

Lisa Perrotti-Brown - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:

"Coming 100% for the Woodlands "home" vineyard, the 2013 Margaret is made up of 78% Cabernet, 11% Merlot and 11% Malbec, and shows a deep garnet-purple color. This blend has pronounced notes of blackberry preserves, mulberries and plums, with cedar, earth, underbrush, menthol and subtle herbs. The palate is firm and finely grained in texture, while still being elegant, long and earthy on the finish. "

Josh Raynolds - Vinous Media:

"Vivid ruby. Suave smoke- and mineral-accented cherry and cassis scents are complemented by suggestions of cigar box, cured tobacco and rose oil. Silky and concentrated on the palate, offering sweet dark berry and cherry compote flavors lifted by juicy acidity. Rich yet energetic in style, finishing with excellent clarity and slowly emerging fine-grained tannins. Distinctly Old World in style and balanced to reward at least another decade of patience."

Product Description:

"Woodlands ‘Margaret’ is sourced entirely from the Woodlands Vineyard. The Cabernet Sauvignon portion comes from a slope on the south of Woodlands that wraps around a 90-degree radius from east to north. The fruit on this slope receives a great deal of direct sunlight from morning to mid-afternoon, leading to rich full-bodied wines. The Merlot and Malbec plots that make up the remainder of ‘Margaret’ come from our west-facing slope of deep loam soil. This slope receives the most direct afternoon sunlight at Woodlands, and produces more exotic fruit characters in the finished wine.

The palate is fine, dense and concentrated– ripe red and dark berry fruits, succulent middle palate, and plush tannin. Characteristic of the power and charm of the 2013 vintage." -Winery
