"The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon District Collection Rutherford represents 738 cases, and this is truly a remarkable wine and probably the best Raymond wine in many a year. Aged 19 months in 55% new French oak and bottled unfined and unfiltered, this seamless classic has a fragrant blackberry and cassis-scented nose, a touch of licorice, creosote and incense, Asian spice, and subtle background oak that make this a juicy, dense wine with moderate tannin, but with fabulous mouthfeel and intensity. This should drink well for 20-25 or more years.

One of the iconic pioneers and historic producers in Napa, this estate was founded by the Raymond family in Rutherford in 1970, although they have been in Napa since the early 1930s. Today, the property is under the ownership of Frenchman and Burgundian, Jean-Charles Boisset, who has committed all of their vineyards (comprising more than 300 acres) to organic, or biodynamic, farming. The quality of the wines has soared under Boisset’s helmsmanship. Much to his credit, Raymond Vineyards has returned to the fold as one of the benchmark, classic estates in all of Napa."

Product Description:

"The original estate vineyard is on the south side of Zinfandel Lane in the middle of Napa Valley. Located on the valley floor between St. Helena and Rutherford, the 90- acre parcel is planted to 81 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The soil type is Pleasanton Loam and has a Region II to Region III climate with moderately warm temperatures.

Stephanie Putnam is the Director of Winemaking at Raymond Vineyards, where she oversees all aspects of winemaking for this iconic Napa Valley winery. Before joining the Boisset Family Estates team, Stephanie spent eight years as winemaker at Far Niente Winery, where she contemporized their house style. Prior to that, she was part of the team at Hess Collection, where she began as a cellar worker and rapidly progressed to winemaker. While there she also worked with the winery’s South American partners. Throughout her tenure at these highly acclaimed Napa Valley estates, Stephanie has focused on producing high quality Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. Her wines have won acclaim, including recognition in the Wine Spectator’s Top 100, Wine Enthusiast’s Top 100 and being named The Wine News Cabernet of the Year.

Our 2013 Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon opens with aromas of black cherry and blackberry with a touch of wet stone. Flavors of dark chocolate syrup and Tahitian vanilla with a mocha finish are complemented with bold, well integrated tannins and a supple mouthfeel. This is a big, gutsy wine that will pair well with seared filet mignon or veal chops." -Winery
