This Single vineyard, estate grown, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon was a flat out ... blockbuster. Full bodied with the hallmark characteristics of the brilliant 2012 vintage. With one taste, you are going to see why this is the vintage that many are saying is going to be even better than 1997. A monster of a wine with layer after layer of complexity, a super silky mouthfeel and a finish that seems to go on for minutes.
About the Winemaker:
This exquisite wine was made by the extremely talented Gustavo Gonzalez. Gonzalez works for some of the most prestigious wineries in Napa Valley and also works on projects in Burgundy, Argentina, Brazil, Portugal, Italy and Spain. He began his education at the University of California at Berkley where he studied winemaking and was mentored by the world renowned consulting enologist, Michel Rolland. During his tenure at Italy's famous Tenuta dell'Ornellaia he crafted the famous 100 Point 2001 Vintage of Masseto which has been called "A monument to Tuscany" and "Perhaps the greatest Tuscan Red ever". During Gustavo’s tenure at Robert Mondavi Winery all of his Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve wines were scored at minimum a 95 point rating from all top critics, an incredible streak of excellence. He continues in this tradition today with wines like the Napa Premeire Ideology, a testament to his brilliance, dedication and talent.
About the Vineyards:
Ideology sources fruit from the exceptional Oak Knoll district of Napa Valley, in particular the excellent Williamson Family Vineyard. Adjacent to the Dry Creek and lying at the base of the Mayacamas Mountains, this site is indeed very special. Thousands of years have washed soil and mineral into these vineyards from the Mayacamas, a recipe for an incredible vineyard. The vineyard has exceptional drainage and the vines struggle, forcing them to produce decadent, rich, and concentrated fruit. The soil types are actually a mixture of all the types to be found on the Mayacamas, leading to an extra dimension of complexity. Normally to find wines with this type of lushness you need to blend from different vineyard sites, not at Ideology. The vineyard is so precise that blending is not required to coax wines of tremendous complexity and character. The 2012 Premire Napa Ideology is only the best of the best from this property, in one of the greatest years imaginable.
"I am a firm believer in terroir and subscribe to three fundamental tenets: creativity, intuition and know how."-Gustavo Gonzalez
