Rating:

90

This structured, fruity wine has a core of dense tannins. The firm smokiness from wood marries well with the blackberry fruit and tight acidity. Well balanced, and likely to age well for 4-6 years. ---Roger Voss

Product Description:

Chateau de Panigon is spread over 90 hectares in the Medoc appellation; 50 hectares are currently in production, located around and in proximity to the chateau buildings. The vineyard is situated on some of the finest gravel outcrops in the Medoc. It is planted to 45 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 45 percent Merlot and 10 percent Petit Verdot. The owners place as much value on making the wine as on growing the grapes. The most modern equipment is used in the most traditional manner, and the cellar allows the entire harvest to be aged in oak barrels. The entire production is chateau-bottled. The production facilities as well as the chateau itself are regularly renovated and improved. Before 1855, the property held the rank of "cru bon bourgeois", and its status as a Cru Bourgeois was confirmed in the 1932 classification as well as in the later ranking of 1978.
