About

Rating:

91

"This valley-wide blend comes from Yountville, Calistoga and Rutherford. It combines the best fruit of the appellations, resulting in a dry, full-bodied and tannic young wine, with classic Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon flavors of cassis. Beautiful now, after a few hours of decanting, and should hold in the bottle for at least eight years."

Product Description:

"Our Yountville vineyard forms the heart of our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, with our Rutherford and Calistoga vineyards rounding out the blend. This Cabernet is packed with rich aromas of black cherry, black licorice and a hint of roasted coffee. Its full body and smooth tannins make it the perfect partner with grilled steak, rack of lamb or roasted duck."

Miljenko 'Mike' Grgich first gained international recognition at the celebrated 'Paris Tasting' of 1976. Then, in a now-historic blind tasting, a panel of eminent French judges swirled, sniffed, and sipped an array of the fabled white Burgundies of France and a small sampling of upstart Chardonnays from the Napa Valley. When their scores were tallied, the French judges were shocked: they had chosen Mike's 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay as the finest white wine in the world. Mon Dieu! The results stunned the international wine establishment and immediately earned Mike a reputation as one of the greatest winemakers in the world." -Winery
