Antonio Galloni - Vinous
"The 2014 Collina Dalla Valle is a relatively soft, open knit wine. There is lovely purity to the dark red cherry fruit, spice and mocha flavors. All the signatures of the estate are present, but in a relatively small-scaled style. I would prefer to drink the 2014 sooner rather than later given its mid-weight structure. The 2014 is two-thirds Cabernet Franc and one-third Cabernet Sauvignon, with a dollop of Petit Verdot."
Product Description:
"Even at this early stage, this wine is long on flavor and texture, showing all the red raspberry and blackberry fruit that were apparent at harvest. Also coming forward are layers of dark chocolate, graphite, incense, and a wide array of baking spices. The tannins are already polished, and while the wine is pure pleasure on the first pour, there is plenty of structure to allow aging for at least 12-15 years.
This newest offering is a compelling testament to what Dalla Valle’s hillside blocks are capable of producing. Blended mainly from the fruit of the estate’s young vines, Collina, which means “hill” in Italian, is intended to be enjoyed upon release—although, like all Dalla Valle wines, it will continue to evolve for a decade or longer.
Dalla Valle Vineyards overlooks the Napa Valley floor from a hillside terrace 400 feet above the Silverado Trail in Oakville. Since Gustav and Naoko Dalla Valle purchased the property in 1982 and began planting vines, this exceptional acreage has continually distinguished itself as the ideal site for producing some of the world’s finest wines, thanks to the perfect convergence of lingering sunlight, cooling marine influence and red volcanic soil." - Winery
