The sweetest of the Madeira single-variety wines, this Bual is still laced with intense acidity. That brightness is contrasted by the toffee and caramel flavors, yielding a wine that is superrich while remaining so fresh at the end. This fine wine is ready to drink.
The 2002 Colheita Bual (bottled in 2014 but first released now) is one of the best colheitas on the grape I’ve had. Such a promising wine with spicy vanilla scents on the nose, dates, muscovado sugar and floral darjeeling notes. But above all, it’s a most refreshing sniff. On the palate it’s quite acidity driven and I’m surprised to hear the sugar is closing in at almost 100 grams. But who cares, it’s all about harmony and elegance in this cool character tasting Bual which has a seducing toffee, vanilla and nutmeg finish. Long, impressive and refreshing finale. But the best thing with the 2002 Bual? There are 8,000 bottles produced of it. 50 cl size. Hence it should be possible to find in several markets. The MAM Opinion: (93 points)
