"Moric's 2015 Lutzmannsburg Alte Reben is deep, ripe and very concentrated on the nose, with aromas of a basket of dark and red fruits with thick skins, almost like a Port. Lush, ripe and intense on the palate, the 2015 vintage is a generous, full-bodied, intense and concentrated yet elegant, even pure and refined Blaufränkisch with ripe and tender tannins. The finish is salty, fresh and crisp, very aromatic and beautifully floral. The is one of the finest Lutzmannsburg wines I have tasted (August 2018)."

"Rose hip, violet, jasmine and currant flavors highlight this pure and elegant red. The tannins are silky and well-integrated, adding just a touch of firmness to the structure, keeping this finely woven and balanced overall. The finish presents inviting notes of graphite, kirsch and mineral. Best from 2021 through 2027. 60 cases imported."

Product Description:

David Schildknecht, the Austrian specialist for Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, describes Roland Velich and his Moric wines this way: "Roland Velich is no longer working with his brother Heinz at the family estate in Apetlon, but is pursuing his own dream, working with old vines in the heart of Blaufrankisch country Mittelburgenland, specifically Lutzmannsburg and Neckenmarkt".

His are wines in a style you will not encounter anywhere else in Austria: Blaufrankisch vinified as if it were Grand Cru Burgundy, and from hillsides (including terraces) and pre-clonal vines the like of which you will not find being cultivated in most of Mittelburgenland. One sip is an Oz experience. From his dreams, to his vines, to his vinification, to his retro label, Velich is in a world of his own.
