"Born in the ancient vineyards of the Aragonêz, Trincadeira, Castelão and Alicante Bouschet varieties, the grapes for this wine are harvested and selected by hand, trodden by foot, fermenting in the cellar's open stone presses, precisely the same methods used for over a hundred years at Herdade do Mouchão and which make Dom Rafael one of the most famous reds in the region. Dom Rafael red ages in chestnut and Portuguese oak barrels and in French oak barrels for 12 months, after which it ages for a further 12 months in the bottle. Ripe but lively notes full of expression, red and black fruit; dark chocolate, menthol spices; dense, with volume in the mouth, resulting from aging in wood; smooth, delicate fruit, velvety texture, fresh, deliciously persistent finish."- Winery
