The 2016 Private Selection Vinhas Velhas is a blend from old vines of 25% Alicante Bouschet, 20% Aragonez, 20% Touriga Nacional and 35% Trincadeira. It was aged for ten to 12 months, depending on lot, in new French oak. It comes in at 14.5% alcohol. This is meant to be the winery's Reserva, a classification no longer used by Laureano because many inexpensive (and poor quality) wines can be Reservas. A bit lusher and more restrained than the 2015, this is still nicely structured and concentrated. The fruit is not quite expressive yet, but there are hints it will be. Another year or two in the cellar would help this, and it should age for a decade or so, at least, after that. You can dive in now if you want to, though.
