Luis Gutierrez - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"Let’s start with the noteworthy 2007 Vina Alberdi, their youngest and fruiter wine from a cold vintage. It’s produced with Tempranillo grapes from their own vineyards in the villages of Rodezno and Labastida, fermented with their natural yeast and aged in American oak barrels produced by their own coopers, the first year in new ones and then transferred to third-use ones. It was bottled in March 2010. The wine has a translucent ruby color with an orange rind and an impressive bouquet of dried flowers, caramelized orange and cloves. The palate reveals a medium-bodied, elegant and balanced wine, keeping the power of the fruit and the subtleness of the aging, which is easy to drink and true to its origin. This wine represents a very good value for traditional Rioja. 500,000 bottles produced. Drink 2014-2018."
Product Description:
"The harvest:
Abundant spring rainfall and rising temperatures made up for the lack of water in winter and favoured canopy development. Although bunches yielded fewer grapes than in previous vintages, they were also loose and small, which equals higher quality. Mild summer temperatures helped a very good healthy and sanitary state. As good weather continued in September, an unhurried maturation occurred, which led to a slow and selective harvest. Bunches offered a magnificent grape health, showing an optimal balance of alcohol content and colouring material. They also boast a remarkable varietal aromatic intensity. This vintage was officially rated as 'Very Good' by the Control Board.
Variety:
100% Tempranillo grapes from the highest plots in our estates of Rodezno and Labastida. The vineyards are over thirty years old and grow in clay-calcareous soils at 1600-2600 feet above sea level.
Winemaking:
After fermentation, the wine had a two-year ageing period (first year in brand new barrels and second in three-year-old average barrels) in American oak barrels made by our own coopers. It was hand-racked by candelight four times and bottled in March 2010.
Tasting:
Bright and lively deep cherry red with a pinkish rim. Intense on the nose, with aromas of ripe red berries (strawberries and blackberries) and roasted coffee and caramel balsamic notes. Good structured and well-balanced on the palate, with sweet tannins that led to a fresh and lingering finish.
Aftertaste that recalls sweet spiced notes, candied fruit, minted chocolate, roasted coffee and caramel.
SERVING SUGGESTIONS:
Viña Alberdi is extraordinarily versatile for food pairing. It ideally complements snacks and appetizers, as well as rice dishes, pasta and casserole recipes. It also pairs well with barbecues and delicate grilled meat and fish." -Winery
