About

"I'll admit it. I love romorantin, especially when it's grown by Michel Gendrier at the Domaine des Huards. This is one of the great white wines of the Loire, with the coolness of a cave carved out of white tuffeau rock. It parallels that rock in a flavor of almond meringue, a savory heirloom apple freshness and equally fresh lime zest across the palate. Deep and savory, this would be delicious with boudin blanc, or an aged goat cheese." (04/14)

Product Description:

WINE:
"Pure and balanced bouquet. Mineral, citrus fruits with a touch of honey. Harmony between vigorous strength and subtle softness on the palate. Persistent, rich in freshness. Accompanies goat cheeses, white meats, cold cuts as well as spiced dishes." -Winery

WINERY:
"In 1846, Pierre Gendrier founded the Domaine des Huards. Henceforth, 7 generations have succeeded each other. Since 1998 our vineyard has been managed organically and biodynamically. The wines produced are solely made from our vineyard’s grapes. In 1950, four hectares of vines are cultivated, mainly consisting of the Romorantin grape variety. In the 1960’s, the focus becomes the constant evolution and growth of the vineyard. The history of our Estate is linked to the history of the Romorantin grape variety. It is one of the most interesting and rare grape varietals to exist." -Winery

VARIETY:
"The history of our estate is linked to the grape Romorantin. For more than a century, our family has elaborated wines made from this grape, seduced by its great qualities. Eugene Magloire Gendrier planted our oldest producing vine stocks in 1922. The Romorantin, rare and unique, enables us to produce fine and delightful wines with an excellent aptitude for aging."

The King Francois Ier introduced the Romorantin in 1519. Under royal decision 80 000 vine stocks were transplanted from Burgundy to his mother's castle in the town of Romorantin. After being planted in divers wine-growing areas of our region, the Romorantin found its terroir of preference around our village, to become the exclusive grape variety for the Cour-Cheverny appellation." -Winery
