About

Rating:

92

"Cassis and elderberry of jellied and distilled concentration are wreathed in heady buddleia and wisteria perfume in the nose of Tribouley's 2011 Les Bacs Vieilles Vignes, and these elements further inform a sweetly-ripe palate of baked-in richness, with toasted nuts, smoky black tea, and crushed stone serving for welcome counterpoint. Fine grained tannins and an enveloping personality help render this utterly irresistible, compelling the next sip before a long finish can even run its course. Expect delight and as usual extraordinary value from this cuvee through at least 2020."

"Jean-Louis Tribouley - for more about whose characteristically impressive work and vineyard sources consult my reports in issues 183 and 195 - repeatedly emphasized how difficult hail- and heat-plagued vintage 2012 was in his sector between Latour de France and Maury. Solicitous 2011, he opined, was quite the opposite. Unfortunately, it was a 2011s that performed problematically this year, a rare occurrence chez Tribouley. In 2012, interestingly, Tribouley reports that his wines kicked-into malo-lactic transformation while still working through their sugar, and both processes were completed earlier than usual."
