Neal Martin - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"The 2011 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques comes from the bottom of the slope, unlike the Cazetiers, from vines that were planted in 1957 and 1972. It offers an engaging, fragrant bouquet that seems more harmonious than the Cazetiers, with pure fresh strawberry, Morello cherry and orange peel - the essence of Pinote in a way. The palate is silky smooth on the entry with poised red cherries and fresh strawberry infused with life-affirming mineralite. It is struck through with tension all the way to the finish that displays superb persistency. This is a great Clos St. Jacques. Drink 2014-2025+"

"Not surprisingly this is both more elegant and cooler with its expressive nose of intensely floral-suffused red berry fruit and wet stone nuances. There is a more refined mouth feel to the even more obviously mineral-driven flavors that are supported by finer grained tannins and superb length on the tension-filled and perfectly balanced finish. A Zen-like wine of harmony and grace."

"Medium red. A real essence of Burgundy on the nose, combining musky red berries, dried flowers and underbrush. Silky and perfumed, with a lovely light touch and subtle intensity to the berry, cherry and violet flavors. This wonderfully pure, understated wine saturates the palate and glistens on the very long, scented finish, which is accented by a peppery nuance. Will this close up in bottle?"
