About

Ratings:

"La Gerla always strives to preserve the territorial characteristics of its wines. Yet, beyond the distinguishing characteristics of Sangiovese - the bright red fruit and the tangy acidity - is a modern wine that is interpreted within a context of oak spice, dark extraction and a sweet chocolate finish. -ML" (05/13)

"A wine with sweet, ripe fruit that resembles plums and dried strawberries. Full body, with soft tannins and fresh acidity. Drink or hold." (02/13)

91 Antonio Galloni - Vinous

"La Gerla's 2008 Brunello di Montalcino hits the palate with a blast of dark fruit, game, tobacco, licorice and incense. Wild, powerful and intense, the 2008 packs serious punch. Ideally, it is best left alone for a few years so that the tannins can soften in bottle. There is no shortage of personality in this full-bodied, authoritative Brunello." (09/13)

91 Wine Spectator

"Full and rich, offering cherry, kirsch, tobacco and earth aromas and flavors. The ripe, refined tannins are buried under the sweetness and flesh, emerging on the resonant finish. Shows fine energy. Best from 2015 through 2029. 1,200 cases imported. -BS" (07/13)

Product Description:

"Deep ruby with orange rim. A little bit grubby and stalky on the nose, but could just be reductive. This hinders the fruit on the palate to come out. Drying finish. Drink 2013 to 2017. (WS)" 14.5 points out of 20, Jancis Robinson's Purple Pages

Wine:
"Opens with a gorgeous bouquet of dark raspberries, flowers, tobacco and French oak, that melds seamlessly onto the palate, where this sweet, layered wine reveals its considerable pedigree. Deceptively medium in body, this expansive, vibrant wine offers tons of fruit supported by ripe, firm tannins. The finish is long, sweet and fresh." - Importer

La Gerla:
"The La Gerla property is situated at 320 metres above sea level, on the gentle slopes below Montalcino. This small wine estate has established itself as one of the great crus in this territory in the heart of Tuscany, delineated by the Orcia and Ombrone valleys. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why, in recent years, La Gerla has received consensus and high points in the best guides and trade publications, as well as appreciation in wine stores and restaurants. Could it be that our clients, when they taste a glass of Brunello Birba, perceive in the bouquet, some of the love of those that made the wine?" - Importer
