John Gilman - View from the Cellar
"The 2011 Bürgel Spätburgunder was made with thirty percent whole clusters this year and is an absolutely superb wine in the making, offering up a deep and very classy bouquet of red and black cherries, a touch of meatiness, cocoa, lovely soil tones and a gentle framing of new oak. On the palate the wine is medium-full, pure, complex and tangy, with a lovely core of fruit, impressive focus and balance, nascent complexity and a long, elegant and gently tannic finish. Klaus-Peter Keller has already set the bar for Spätburgunder very high with his previous vintages, but it seems to me that these wines are getting more refined with every passing vintage. Lovely juice. 2018-2035+."
