About

Rating:

90

The 2012 Mantinia is the winery’s single vineyard Moschofilero. It has the lime green label and it is named and labeled so as to distinguish it from the winery’s other appellation Moschofilero. (They both are Moschofileros with appellation Mantinia status, actually.) As in last year’s comparison, the regular Moscho shows great until you taste this one. For the tiny price difference, there’s an easy choice here. It is also 12% alcohol as listed, but there is another layer of depth here with this green label bottling. Yet it retains its finesse, which sometimes seems missing in places in 2012. This is pure and transparent, a wine that opens understated while eventually showing some notable grip and power on the finish as it warms and airs out. Aromatic and laced with minerally nuances, this fresh wine is never less than delicious. Let the tasty fruit dribble over your palate (and don’t drink it too cold if you like that fruit). It deserves a little uptick because of its “more-ish” qualities – that is, you’ll want more. While I expect this to hold a bit, I can’t imagine that it will ever be better than it will be this summer. There were 850 cases produced. Drink now-2015.
